21. What does someone need to know before they can confidently refer you?

Referrals aren't just about what someone knows about what you
It's about whether they can trust you or not.
Are you referrable to your network?

Before I refer someone to you, I want to know four things:
• What you do,
• Who you do it for especially well,
• How you tend to work with people and
• Whether I can trust the experience my client will have.

Notice that only one of those is a credential question.

Referrals are personal. They are going to reflect back on me.

That is why the soft information matters.
• Are you responsive?
• Are you collaborative?
• Do you explain things clearly?
• Do you respect boundaries?

Expertise gets you considered.

The experience you create is what makes someone comfortable putting their reputation beside yours.
