What’s the difference between networking and relationship building?
Networking isn't just about handshakes and card exchanges.
It's building the relationship with the person after the mixer.
The best relationships come from what happens after you leave the room.

Networking is the introduction. Relationship building is everything that happens afterward. Networking gets
two people into the same conversation. Relationship building gives that conversation context, memory and
trust. It is the difference between knowing that someone is an estate planning attorney and knowing the
particular families they serve well, how they communicate and what kind of professional partner they are.
We often celebrate the meeting as though the work is finished. It is really just the opening scene. The value
comes from what you learn about each other over time and whether you become useful to one another.
